Brightness & Contrast Adjuster
Fine-tune the overall lightness of a photo and the spread between light and dark areas with two simple sliders. The preview updates instantly so you can see how the image responds, and the output keeps the original resolution and colour space. Works on JPG, PNG and WebP and is the right first step before sharpening, filters or colour grading.
How to adjust brightness and contrast
- Drop your image onto the tool or click to browse. Any common raster format is accepted.
- Drag the brightness slider up for under-exposed photos and down for images that look washed out.
- Nudge contrast to deepen shadows and brighten highlights — small moves of 5-15% often do more than a large push.
- Click Download to save the adjusted copy. The original file is left untouched.
Common use cases
- Rescuing under-exposed indoor photos before posting them to social media or a blog.
- Softening an over-exposed outdoor shot by pulling brightness down and adding a touch of contrast.
- Preparing product shots so the subject reads clearly against a light or dark studio background.
- Boosting contrast on screenshots and diagrams for documentation where readable detail matters more than fidelity.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between brightness and contrast?
Brightness moves every pixel up or down by the same amount. Contrast pulls light pixels brighter and dark pixels darker, widening the spread. Use brightness to correct exposure and contrast to add punch.
Can I recover detail from a completely black or white area?
No. If an area is pure black or pure white in the source, the data is gone. Adjusting contrast or brightness will not bring it back. For at-risk photos, shoot in RAW next time so you have more headroom.
Will adjusting values lose quality?
Slight adjustments are essentially lossless. Pushing sliders to extremes clips pixels to pure white or black, which is irreversible — keep an eye on the preview to avoid blown highlights or crushed shadows.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool uses the Canvas API to apply adjustments locally. Your file never leaves the device and nothing is stored on a server.
About brightness and contrast
Brightness shifts every pixel's luminosity up or down uniformly, making the whole image lighter or darker. Contrast stretches the distance between the darkest and brightest values, so detail in shadows and highlights becomes easier to read — or, pushed too far, gets clipped and lost. Using both together lets you correct under- and over-exposed photos without opening a full photo editor.
